How to make an alarm with your own sound on iPhone

Updated by Winton Gee

Quick answer

Make a tone of up to 29.9 seconds and choose Alarm as its kind. In the Alarms tab of the app, tap Add alarm, set the time and repeat days, and choose your tone. Alarms ring even when your iPhone is in silent mode or a Focus.

Waking up to a song you love is easier than waking up to a beep. These steps are for iOS 26 and later, which lets apps schedule real alarms. Apple describes them as alerts that “break through silent mode” and the current Focus.

1. Make the alarm sound

  1. In Ringtone & Text Tone Maker, tap New tone and choose a song, a video's sound or a recording.
  2. Choose Alarm at the top of the editor.
  3. Drag the handles to the part you want to wake up to, up to 29.9 seconds.
  4. A gentle fade in helps you wake slowly. Tap Save.

2. Set the alarm

  1. Open the Alarms tab and tap Add alarm.
  2. Set the time.
  3. Choose the repeat days, or leave them empty for an alarm that rings once.
  4. Add a label, such as Work or Sleep in.
  5. Choose your tone, then save.

The first time, iOS asks whether Ringtone & Text Tone Maker may schedule alarms. If an alarm doesn't ring, go to Settings > Apps > Tone Maker and make sure Alarms is on. Alarms with your sounds are part of Pro.

Using the Clock app instead

Apple's Clock app lets you choose a vibration, song or ringtone as an alarm's sound. To use a tone you made there, add it to your iPhone with Use as Ringtone, then in Clock tap Alarms, tap the alarm time, tap Sound and choose it.

Where Ringtone & Text Tone Maker helps

Ringtone & Text Tone Maker turns a song file, a video or a recording into a ringtone, a text tone or an alarm sound. Basic tones are free and unlimited, with no ads.

Ringtone & Text Tone Maker is coming soon to the App Store.
